Hyderabad: Youth are to play a key role in the conduct of elections on December 7. About 4,000 engineering students are appointed for webcasting the elections and 3,000 youth volunteers are appointed to help specially abled voters, senior citizens and pregnant women exercise their votes. Young engineers have already been playing a key role in various election-related works such as checking of voting machines, preparation of reports, and designing election related mobile apps. Youth volunteers under the guidance of senior officials are helping election officials in the effective conduct of elections.

GHMC IT department officers said that there was huge response for the advertisement in newspapers for volunteers for webcasting and it received around 8,000 applications, reflecting the interest among youth towards election process. SWEEP nodal officer Hari Chandana said youth had also been active in awareness campaigns to increase voter percentage through their Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites.
