Charminar: The Advisor to State government (Minority Welfare) and retired IPS officer A K Khan on Tuesday expressed displeasure over delay of renovation works at the Mecca Masjid, which has crossed the stipulated deadline.
He reviewed the works along with officials of various departments and took stock of the situation. He enquired with the officials and contractors, as to why the work was being getting delayed, even as the stipulated time of 18-month has crossed. Several works, both on outside and inside the historic mosque crossed the deadline.
Later, speaking to media persons, he informed that State government had sanctioned Rs 8.48 crore for performing renovation and repair works at Mecca Masjid. He said that his visit was part of assessing and reviewing the works which has been delayed for months. “The quality of work being taken up is up to the stipulated standards, but the work was delayed,” he said.
He noted that the 18-month deadline was not fulfilled by the contractor and officials monitoring the work. He asked those engaged in the work to finish-off the work by next few months, as Ramzan would be nearing and the worshippers may once again face inconvenience. “The work should have been completed. They should speed up the progress of work. From now on regular monitoring and review will be done,” he affirmed.
N R Visalatchy, Director, Archaeology, Narayana, Deputy Director, Archaeology, Khadeer Siddique, Superintendent of Mecca Masjid and other officials accompanied him during the review.
Earlier, Khan had paid visit to Mecca Masjid, along with local MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri in May and assured completion of works before commencement of Ramzan and the work remains pending for more than six months, since then.
