GHMC to crack down on open urination
GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore directed all the zonal commissioners and engineering officials to strictly implement the rules and to impose fines on people who urinate at public places
Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore directed all the zonal commissioners and engineering officials to strictly implement the rules and to impose fines on people who urinate at public places.
Kishore also said that people who dump Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste, plastic and other garbage waste in Nalas and on main roads will also be imposed fines. Discussions were also held with regards to controlling footpath encroachments and to giving importance to Swachh Survekshan, property tax collection and other civic related issues. The commissioner said that they should also be taken up with top priority.
The Commissioner held a review meeting with all the ZCs and engineering officials on Tuesday at GHMC Head Office and gave directions to strictly implement the rules to curb the menace of open urination to make the city clean and green and also to concentrate more on revenue collection. Interacting with the officials, the commissioner said that proper cleanliness has to be maintained at public toilets. Temporary toilets also should be provided at the open urination points and near lakes, he added.
The GHMC has already initiating action against the people who are throwing garbage in nalas and on main roads. It has to be strengthened for effective implementation of the rules by duly imposing heavy penalties. The Enforcement & Vigilance wing is also being deployed to control open urination. With regard to Swachh Survekshan 2019, awareness campaigns have to be taken up in coordination with all the NGOs and RWAs, Basthi Committees, SHGs to reach the target assigned to them, the commissioner said.
The Commissioner further said that the Swachh Autos, which are collecting garbage from houses, have to be connected with GPS for transparency. Those who produce more than 100 kg of garbage, like Hotels and other business establishments, have to strictly implement compost units for clearing the garbage waste. Every shop owner must provide two dust bins in front of their shops for easy transportation of garbage to the transfer station, Kishore added.
The GHMC has taken up recarpeting of roads, and the works are almost in the final stages. Works of footpaths on main roads are also to be taken to be completed in stipulated time. So far, 17 km of footpaths works have been completed, and the remaining 13 km have to be taken up on war-footing basis, said the commissioner.
In the last few months, the GHMC has filled 36,990 potholes, and the work has been continuously going on to fill up potholes whenever identified. The Commissioner directed the chief engineer for continuous monitoring of 390 open nalas. (NSS)
