Women laud Bathukamma sarees with golden border

Hyderabad: Bathukamma saree distribution is continuing in the State like a festival. The women-folk were lining up to receive their sarees at the centres and programmes organized for the purpose. The State government launched the popular Bathukamma sarees distribution programme on December 19 as it was earlier kept in abeyance due to polls for the Assembly. Across all districts, the administration has made arrangements for smooth distribution of the Bathukamma sarees. While TRS leader Harish Rao started the programme at Siddipet on the first day, TRS MP from Bhongir, Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud took up the programme at Sansthan Narayanpur here.

The ruling party spokesperson and MLC Karne Prabhakar also attended the programme and gave away sarees to the women beneficiaries in the queue. The TRS government has sent as many as 90 lakh sarees in about 80 models with golden border that are being appreciated by the women on receiving one. At Nalgonda, MLA Kancharla Bhupal Reddy and in Halia, MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah participated in the saree distribution programme. It will continue till all the stocks of the Bathukamma sarees are given away to the women who will celebrate Bathukamma during Sankranthi festival in January.
