Hanamkonda: Telugu Desam Party Politburo member Revuri Prakash Reddy has found fault with the TRS government issuing ordinance reducing the backward class (BC) reservation quota. Speaking to the media persons here on Thursday, he demanded the government to ensure reservations for BCs in local body elections in tune with the population ratio of the BCs in the State.

He accused the TRS government of intentionally delaying the Panchayat polls that were originally scheduled to take place early this year. “In a bid to defer the conduct of local body polls, the government delayed the process, especially in regard with the reservations.

Now in a haste to conduct the polls in accordance with the High Court directions, the government promulgated an ordinance which restricted reservations for the BCs,” Reddy said. The KCR government unilaterally took the decision without consulting the legal experts. The government neither took the Opposition into confidence, he said.

“It’s been a fortnight since the new government was formed but the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is yet to expand his Cabinet. KCR would have discussed the quota issue with his Cabinet colleagues,” he said, terming it as unilateral decision. Instead of taking decision individually, KCR should discuss it with his Cabinet, he said.

He said that KCR, who tried to woo the BCs by showering sops on them before the elections, is now least bothered about them, he alleged, accusing the government of bulldozing the rights of the BCs. He said that limiting reservations to the BCs to 23.34 per cent as against 34 per cent in 2013 is nothing but meting out injustice to the BCs.

“KCR, who often used to say that he has the Samagra Kutumba Survey data with him, needs to relook into the quota for the BC in the ensuing Panchayat polls,” Reddy said. He said that TDP will support any agitation that demands an increase in quota for the BCs.

Senior leaders Gannoju Srinivasa Chary, K Ramachandra Rao, Jatoth Santhosh Naik, Hanmakonda Sambaiah and Margam Sarangam were among others present.
