HEIs in TS, AP deprive students of NAD facility

​Hyderabad: A large number of students in conventional, technical and medical universities in two Telugu States are deprived of depositing, retrieving and authentication of their academic record in an inexpensive way.

According to sources in the TSHCE and APSCHE, it was resolved to upload the academic certificates awarded to the students to the National Academic Depository (NAD). The decision has been taken at a meeting of vice-chancellors and directors of 600 plus universities and Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) like IITs, IIMs, NITs and others held in July last year.

However, so far only 25 out of 50 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh have opted for the NDA. Speaking to The Hans India, sources at the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) said, so far only Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Dr YSR Horticultural University, Dravidian University, Vikram Simhapuri University, Sri Venkateswara Vedic University and Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University were among the State universities opted for the NAD.

Similarly, among the Central Higher Educational Institutions (CHEIs), in the State, the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada and Indian Institute of Management, Vishakhapatnam (IIM-V) were the only two among the CHEIs registered themselves with the NDA.

That apart, Aditya Global Business School, Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF) and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) were the two other institutions and deemed universities extending the benefits of the NAD to their students, the sources added. Similarly, in Telangana State too, out of 25 HEIs, only 11 have so far extended the benefits of the NAD to their students.

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, NALSAR University of Law, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Satavahana University and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University were the only state universities registered with the NAD. Indian Institute of Technology and Maulana Azad National Urdu University, were the only two of the CHEIs from the State associated with the NAD.

Though technically not falling under the CHEIs, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) and ICAR - National Academy of Agricultural Research Management were the three other premier specialised institutions registered with the NAD. The two private institutions extending the NAD services to their students from Telangana are Institute of Computers and Business Management-School of Business Excellence and Aurora's Business School.

It may be mentioned here that the NDA was meant to provide a 24x7 online one-stop store for all academic records, including certificates, diplomas, degrees, mark-sheets, provisional certificates etc. uploaded by the academic institutions, boards and eligibility assessment bodies. In turn, students can retrieve their academic certificates anytime and anywhere.

Further, whenever a student needs to submit or verify his certificate, a senior official from the PJTSAU said: "All that the students have to do is to give their consent for online verification of their documents deposited at NAD.” Also, the registration and maintenance of the certificate are free for students until they attain the age of 27 years.
