CCTVs role crucial in curbing crimes

Kapra: CCTV cameras have been playing a major role in controlling crime rate and finding out the whereabouts of the criminals in a scientific approach. ‘Nenu Saitham,’ a programme of Rachakonda Commissionerate to create awareness on CCTV cameras, has been yielding good results where the crime rate decreased drastically with increased installation of the cameras.
Most of the households, business and trade establishments and educational institutions under the limits of LB Nagar Police Station have been showing interest in such installations.
The advanced technology of CCTV cameras has come as a boon to the police department in solving cases right from chain snatching to the recent murder of an elder woman at NTR Nagar.
Under the leadership of Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagawat, SHO Ashok Reddy, along with SIs, are creating awareness on CCTV cameras by distributing pamphlets and conducting meetings in the limits of under LB Nagar Police. The efforts have shown good results. As many as 5,260 cameras were installed at colonies, junctions, worship places, apartments, business establishments and educational institutions till December 2018. Of which, some 383 were installed at colonies.
The CCTV camera system will record the movements of criminals, strangers and suspects. The LB Nagar police busted as many as 70 cases with the help of their footages in 2017. Major cases like gold ornaments theft at Sitara Hotel, tracing out main accused in attack on lorry driver at NTR Nagar Market, solving 40 bikes theft case, chain snatching at Sai Nagar Colony in Nagole and D Mart at LB Nagar in the same year. In 2018, it helped in reducing the crime rate and was instrumental in busting some 60 cases.
SHO of LB Nagar Police Station V Ashok Reddy said that it is every ones responsibility in installing CCTV cameras for their and other people’s safety and security, according to Telangana State Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act 2013 & 2014. He said that basic rules should be followed in installing the cameras.
The cameras with 2 mega pixels were suitable, and a minimum of one month backup is required for the surveillance system, he explained. The SHO said that they asked MLC Karne Prabhakar to sanction funds in installing the cameras at Erukala Nancharamma Basti and Fathullah Guda.
