Charminar: The Congress leaders have called upon the residents of Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, Bahadurpura and other divisions in parts of Old City to ensure that their names are enlisted in the electoral rolls in the upcoming general elections.Congress Party senior leader and Charminar in-charge K Venkatesh, who has been coordinating with the election officials, toured all the polling centres and assessed the voter registration programme being taken up by the Election Commission (EC).

He spoke to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and asked them to ensure that no legitimate voter is deprived of availing of his franchise on the Election Day. He recalled that during the Assembly elections thousands of voters could not vote, as their names were not listed in the electoral rolls on the polling day. “Since the authorities are ensuring that no genuine voter is held back in the process, it is the duty of every individual to ensure that their name is listed in the electoral rolls.

All the youngsters who have crossed 18 years of age should voluntarily come forward and register themselves,” he said.As part of his campaign, the Congress leader met BLOs C Vinod Kumar, K Narasimha, Lalitha, Ashok, Swathi, Yadamma and Chenamma. Earlier this month, K Venkatesh, along with the BJP leader T Uma Mahendra, met Deputy GHMC Commissioner (Circle 9) P Saralamma and discussed the matter to ensure that no eligible voter goes missing from the voter lists and that all voters avail of their franchise in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

They alleged that a section of voters were denied the opportunity to vote and held that the officials should hold responsibility for this and ameliorate what has been done by including the names of those who were missing from the lists. They asked the officials to ensure that the past mistakes were not repeated.
