Vikarabad: As third phase panchayat polls are approaching fast, the candidates are leaving no stone unturned to emerge victorious. It is learned that the candidates are luring the voters by offering money, liquor and household items. It is alleged that the candidates are spending Rs 2,000 to 5,000 for each vote.

The district administration is making elaborate arrangements to conduct the election for 148 sarpanch posts and 1300 wards, in Parigi constituency, which is scheduled to be held on January 30. Poll campaign has been intensified as leaders from all the parties are trying to woo the voters by all means. It is learned that candidates are not hesitating to sell their properties to win the election at any cost.

Leaders are facing tough time to pacify the candidates as more than one candidate from the same party is contesting. A fresh controversy has erupted after Parigi MLA Mahesh Reddy has extended his support to an independent candidate other than TRS in Pooduru mandal. Police arranged a picket to prevent untoward incidents in this regard.

It is learnt that people who migrated to other cities have been offered travel expenses along with other incentives to visit the native village to cast vote. It is predicted that polling percentage may rise as it has already crossed 80 per cent mark in phase 1 and 2 elections.
