Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to take more stringent measures to continue to make the city open defecation-free, following the declaration of ODF ++ certification by the Swatchh Bharat mission. As part of the measures, GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore on Friday issued orders constituting special teams to oversee prevention of open defecation in open areas of 30 GHMC circles and to impose heavy penalties on those resorting to open defecation.

He appointed SFI jawans of the GHMC sanitation wing as in-charges to take up special inspection in identified open urination areas in every circle. The orders empower the in-charges to identify persons indulging in open defecation/urination and levy heavy penalties on them. A press release issued by the civic body stated that already steps have been taken on the use of pre-fabricated toilets of hotels and petrol bunds by the people, besides allotting she-toilets exclusively for women and setting up pre-fabricated toilets.

According to the release, the ODF++ certification to Hyderabad among the Metro cities by the Swatchh Bharat Mission and the programmes as part of the Swatchh Sarvekshan were yielding good results. It recalled that 250 of 5,000 marks to be awarded for ODF++ by Swatchh Sarvekshan would be secured for the city.
