Kodad: Animal lovers of Kodad town on Monday conducted the last rites of a cow that died after eating plastic. According to sources, a wandering cow in Kodad town was forced to eat papers and plastic due to scarcity of fodder.

The cow fell ill two days ago. The members of Srirama Sainyam, who found the cow in the deplorable condition on a road side in the town, shifted it to local veterinary hospital for treatment. Even though, the doctors took out over 10kg of plastic from the stomach of the cow by performing a surgery, the cow could not survive.

Expressing concern over the demise of the cow due to plastic, Srirama Sainyam members performed the last rites of the cow and took out a protest rally. They demanded the local municipal authorities to impose ban on use of plastic bags and save the animals and the environment.

They later staged a protest in front of the municipal office in the town along with body of the dead cow. Environmentalist Kollu Laxmi Narayana, Srirama Sainyam members and members of other NGOs Yada Suresh, Gundu Madhusudhan, Nadella Balakrishna, Busani Malla Reddy, R Kalyan and animal lovers took part in the protest.
