Hyderabad: The first phase of inspections of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that will be used for the forthcoming Parliament elections commenced here on Wednesday. As part of the process, the EVM godown, located at Chudi Bazar, has been opened and ballot and control units of EVMs and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs) stored in the godown were shifted to Victory Play Ground, located in Chaderghat.

Seals of the godown were removed in the presence of GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore and the representatives of various political parties. About 14,000 BU and CU of EVMs and VVPATs were shifted to Victory Play Ground for inspection. Additional commissioners Advaitha Kumar Singh, Sandeep Jha, representatives of political parties Rajesh from Congress, Pawan from BJP, Srikanth from CPI were present on the occasion. Earlier, the representatives of political parties inspected locks and seals of special rooms where the EVMs of different constituencies were stored.

Each room was then opened and EVMs were shifted in the presence of the representatives of the political parties. Except for the constituencies that have pending court cases, EVMs of all the constituencies were shifted. GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore said that the inspection of EVMs would commence from Monday.
