Hanamkonda: The Senate Hall of Kakatiya University (KU) on Thursday echoed with youthful exuberance with 45 participants, rather Parliamentarians vying for just two slots that take them to the National Youth Parliament competition to be held in New Delhi on February 23 and 24.

The State-level Youth Parliament, a non-partisan programme that provides a dais for the young turks, aged between 18 and 25 years, to express their say on issues of national interests, policies and parliamentary understanding, organised by KU NSS unit was a grand success. In a nutshell, it’s the voice of youth on policymaking with an eye on future.

The participants, who were given three minutes each to put forward their point of view of their chosen topic, displayed a lot of courage in projecting their point of view with aplomb. A participant, Shohab, gave a new definition to the Swachhata (cleanliness). She questioned the society – Is Swachhta is all about keeping home and surroundings clean? Why not people think about keeping their souls and thoughts Swachh?

The participants, who choose one among the four topics, 1) One Nation, One Election – A Must for Good Governance; 2) India at the Threshold of Becoming a Super Power; 3) Digital India – Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide; and 4) Swachhta – Building a Mass movement in India, have come up with crisp presentation.

While the renowned Kuchipudi artiste and choreographer NSL Praveena acted as the Speaker of the House, the Jury members are… retired Law Professor T Vijay Chandra, Narsampet Assistant Commissioner of Police V Sunita Mohan, Gandhi Darshan National Secretary GVVSDS Prasad, High Court Advocate A Raghu Kumar and politician Sanga Sampath.

Earlier speaking at the inaugural ceremony, KU Vice-Chancellor R Sayanna emphasised the role of youth’s participation in the democratic process.
“It’s high time for the youth to come forward with new ideas that change the face of the nation.”

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan (NYKS) National Vice-Chairman S Vishnuvardhan Reddy said that India is in a position to command the world in various facets of development. Sunita Mohan said that India have the advantage of demographic dividend that increases the productivity and economy of the nation.

It may be mentioned here that four toppers have been selected in the State-level Youth Parliament and of which, two will be sent to the National-level competition. The other two selected participants are standby.

NSS State Nodal Officer P Vishnu Dev, KU Registrar K Purushotham and KU Programme Coordinator Dr Sunkari Jyothi, Nehru Yuva Kendra Officer Manoranjan, NSS Regional Coordinator KC Reddy and KU Finance Officer K Prabhavathi were among others present.

Winners of State-level Youth Parliament
The winners of the first four places are - Kunal Anand Goud, Department of Political Science, Osmania University, Hyderabad, who scored 364 marks stood first. S Srinivas Reddy of Nalgonda secured second place with 361 marks. Uma Shankar Kumar, SVIT, Hyderabad, and Lalith D Rupani, GNIT, Hyderabad, who both secured 359 marks apiece, are the standby.
