Mahbubnagar: Thanks to the initiative of KCR Kits, the district government hospital in Mahbubnagar has witnessed a whopping jump of 95 per cent deliveries compared to previous years before the launch of the scheme.

According to statistics from the District Medical and Health Department, there have been more than 13,580 deliveries performed from the year June 2017 to December 2018. The main reason for this huge increase in the institutional deliveries in the district government hospital is purely attributed to KCR Kits and Amma Vodi schemes, which have gained prominence and have attracted the rural masses.

Earlier, only the rural folks from the villages and poor who could not afford to pay in private hospitals used to come to government hospitals for deliveries and sometimes to avoid the risk even those deliveries were referred to some other higher-level hospitals by the concerned doctors. But now the situation has completely changed in the district.

Even economically affordable candidates are opting to get deliveries done in the government hospitals, thanks to KCR Kits and initiative by the State government to improve the infrastructure facilities, medical staff and doctors in the government hospitals in the district.

“The district hospital in Mahbubnagar has improved a lot now. Unlike a few years back where we used to get harsh treatment by the hospital staff, now the situation has changed and many pregnant women are opting to get their deliveries done in the government hospital. The main reason for this drastic change can be attributed to the KCR Kits and the quality of medical care to the patients,” said Dasaiah, a villager from Chinna Gutta village, who had brought his wife for delivery at the Government hospital.

The district authorities in Mahbubnagar have so far distributed more than 10,460 kits to the beneficiaries and the State government has deposited Rs 20 core at the hospital for promoting institutional deliveries in Mahbubnagar district. As per the State government’s policy, the women who deliver in the government hospital will get KCR kit package with 16 items such as clothes, quality baby soaps, baby oil, baby power and mosquito nets. They also get monitory benefit of Rs 12,000 in case the baby is male and Rs 13,000 if the baby born is female. Another scheme Amma Vodi is also attracting the pregnant woman to prefer government hospitals as it will arrange for the pick-up and drop of pregnant women for health check-ups during gestation period.
