Hyderabad: Irrigation continued to get the lion’s share in the budget proposals in Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s dispensation. For the consecutive fifth year, the irrigation sector has been earmarked with more than Rs 20,000 crore for the construction of projects and the revival of abandoned water bodies and tanks under Mission Kakatiya.
Presenting the vote on account in the Assembly, the chief minister said the allocation of Rs 22,500 to irrigation was with an aim to completing all irrigation projects in the next five years. Sita Rama lift irrigation projects on River Godavari is progressing rapidly to make Khammam agriculturally prosperous.
The government is making efforts to provide irrigation through Kaleshwaram by this monsoon session, he said.Through Mission Kakatiya, 20,171 tanks have been rejuvenated and to fill the tanks, the government has introduced revival of the chain of tanks. Plans were already prepared to take water from the first to the last tank through canals though chain linkages. There were 27,800 tanks under 12,150 chain tanks in the state. The Central Water Commission visited Kaleshwaram project and appreciated the pace of works, he said.
