Hyderabad: The February has witnessed 21 accidents till date on Rajiv Rahadari State Highway road. As many as 21 members died and 52 got injured. Two people were killed at Ravindra Nagar and Kodakondla in two different accidents. Both deceased people belonged to Erravalli village.

Overspeeding and reckless driving were the main reasons for the accidents, officials said. They said that despite many awareness programmes and safety instructions, people resorted to reckless driving. In order to reach their destination quickly, commuters were driving their vehicles at high speeds resulting in accidents.
The Rajiv Rahadari road has been divided into four lanes during erstwhile Andra Pradesh state. This road begins at Vantimamidi village and ends at Devakkapalli in district limits. It is learned that about 110 vehicles would pass through this road at the speed of 60 to 120 km per hour. Despite there is a police station every 15 kilometers, no measures have been taken to curb the speed of vehicles.

It has been reported that about 600 accidents take place in a year and almost 50 get killed and several injured in these deadly mishaps. More than 40 percent of the cases registered in the stations were of accident cases, which itself tells the severity of the problem.

The main reason for the accidents on this road is improper divider measurements and C shaped curves, told a group of MLCs of United Andhra Pradesh after inspecting it twice. They identified 60 curves in the district and presented a memorandum in this regard to government, they said earlier. But nothing has been done to improve the situation.
The proposals to build bridges where the road is passed through the middle of the villages has remained a distant dream for the villagers. Villagers of Vantimamidi, Mulugu, Gouraram, Pragnapur, Rimmanaguda, Kodakondla, and Kukunur are facing a tough time to cross the road as many heavy vehicles are going at high speeds. An old man Ananthayya died near Rimmanaguda while crossing the road. Locals demanded the officials to build foot over bridges, but officials turned blind eye to their appeals.

Police announced the repair works of Rajiv Rahadari road during the inauguration of new police Commissionerate, but nothing materialized till date. People urge the officials to take measures immediately to reduce the accidents and build bridges at villages.
