Medak: With the successful completion of assembly and panchayat elections, officials are gearing up for ensuing Lok Sabha elections. They have already inspected the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that were used in the assembly polls and increased the polling stations for the smooth conduct of the polls. As notification may release in March, the officials are making all necessary arrangements.
The police and revenue officials of seven assembly constituencies under Medak Lok Sabha limits will meet on Tuesday to discuss the arrangements for the ensuing elections. Earlier, nominations were filed in Sangareddy. As the districts are reconstituted, the officials appointed Medak Collector Dharma Reddy as the returning officer. The officials have planned to conduct nomination process in collect orate and counting process in BVRIT College in Narsapur.
The officials have prepared voter lists for Lok Sabha elections. They have taken up the process of the changes and the enrollment of new voters after the assembly and panchayat polls. A huge number of applications were received for new enrollments. Officials scrutinized the applications and prepared the final voter lists on February 22.
There are a total of 15.95 lakh voters in the Lok Sabha constituency.
Officials have also increased the polling booths. There was one polling center for every 1,400 voters in the assembly polls, now the officials arranged one polling station for every 1,200 voters.
Officials are also conducting awareness programmes on EVMs and VVPATs.
Collector Dharma Reddy addressed the assistant returning officers, revenue officials, and police officials regarding the arrangements of the Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday. The meeting will be convened in collectorate.
