Warangal: A pall of gloom descended on Ramachandrapuram village under Sangem mandal where last rites of Topucherla Ravali (20) were performed on Tuesday.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed, as hundreds of villagers bid adieu to Ravali at the graveyard on the outskirts of the village. The villagers, who were emotionally charged, demanded same punishment to the accused P Sai Anvesh, who set Ravali on fire on February 27.

It may be recalled here that P Ravali was set on fire by her childhood friend and batch-mate Anvesh in Hanamkonda after she allegedly refused to accept his love. Ravali sustained 70 per cent burns and succumbed on Monday at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

Ravali’s parents Sudhakar and Padma were inconsolable. Sarpanch Dilip Rao said that it was shocking to learn about the incident. ZPTC Veeramma demanded police to encounter Anvesh or hand him over to the villagers.

She said that due to Ravali’s incident, many a parent stopped their girl childs going to college. Meanwhile, police ensured security measures to avoid any untoward incident in Ramachandrapuram and Chennaram village under Wardhannapet mandal. Mamnoor ACP G Shyam Sunder said that a police outpost had been set up and it will remain for some more time in the village.
