Visakhapatnam: Noted Telugu writer Rayasam Venkata Tripurantakeswara Rao passed away here at a private hospital on Friday after a brief illness.

He was 85 and is survived by wife, two daughters and a son and the funeral will take place on Sunday, family members said. Many writers, including Chalasani Prasad, expressed condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

Writer Tripurantakeswara Rao was born in Purushottapuram of Ganjam district and studied BSc (agriculture) and MA English at Banaras Hindu University. He worked as a teacher and principal in Bir Vikram Dev College, Tripura.

He made a name as a short story writer with 'Tripura Kathalu' and 'Badhalu-Sandarbhalu' and others.
