Warangal: Rich homage was paid to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule commemorating his 126th death anniversary here on Monday.GWMC Mayor N Narender, district Congress president N Rajender Reddy and several others have offered floral tributes to Jyotirao Phule statue located at Mulug Cross Roads in Warangal.

At a programme at Kakatiya University, the SDLCE Director Prof Ch Dinesh Kumar and others paid homage to Phule.Speaking on the occasion, the leaders recalled the services rendered by Phule towards women’s emancipation.

They called upon the youth to follow the ideals of Phule and lend their support in achieving cent percent literacy.Rajender Reddy described Phule as a great social reformer and a revolutionary who brought changes in social customs and traditions during his time.

Going against the social customs at that time has convinced the British government to provide education to girl children and women.
Mayor Narender said the State government was committed for social justice and imparting quality education to all in accordance with the aspirations Phule. Programmes like Kalyana Lakshmi and others were being implemented for the benefit of BCs.

“Though the Warangal mayor seat allotted to open category, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to make a BC candidate as the mayor and chosen me for the post. It proves the TRS governments’ concern towards the backward classes,” he added.

GWMC councillors Boda Dinna, Jorika Ramesh, Congress leaders EV Srinivas Rao, Battini Srinivas Rao, the leaders of different BC organisations have also paid home to Mahatma Phule.
