Malleshwar was participating in the 102nd birth anniversary celebrations of Konda Lakshman Bapuji at the Journalism Department of Kakatiya University in Warangal on Wednesday.
After paying floral tributes to the portrait of Konda Lakshman Bapuji, S Malleshwar alleged that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi tried to lure Bapuji by offering him the Chief Ministership to suppress the Telangana movement.
But Bapuji by rejecting the offer, he resigned his Ministership and intensified the movement to achieve separate Statehood for Telangana and laid down a new path to the politics in the region, he added.
Malleshwar said that Konda Lakshman Bapuji was a great freedom fighter and the first person to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding separate Statehood for Telangana. To uplift the weaker sections especially the people who belong to BC category, Konda Lakshman Bapuji along with Sardar Gowthu Latchanna conducted a meeting with more than 2 lakhs of people in Tirupati.
By seeing the massive response, the then Chief Minister N T Rama Rao increased the reservations quota for BCs, he recalled. District PASS President Valluri Ramchandram presided over the meeting.
The representatives of PASS Dr. Vadla Veerachari, Dr. Peddaboina Venkataiah, Dr. Manda Veera Swamy, Dr. Dasari Nivas and non-teaching Union members Vangala Sudhakar, Nallapu Sridhar and Vallala Tirupati were present along with others.

Everyone must follow his footsteps to realise his goals and aspirations. The birth anniversary of Prof. Konda Laxman Bapuji will be celebrated on a grand note from coming up year, he assured.
