Warangal: The State government is committed for the welfare of the handloom weavers, stated Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.
Stressing on the need to focus on the welfare measures for the weaver's community, he said the Telangana government has adopted a multi-pronged approach and has been coming up with various programmes in that direction.
The government has recently launched ‘Nethannaku Cheyuta Scheme’ for the uplift of weavers. The weavers would be provided 50 per cent subsidy for procuring yarn and chemicals used in weaving, the Speaker noted.
Madhusudhana Chary took part in ‘Hastkala Sahyog Shivir’ at Shayampet of Warangal Rural district on Thursday. The programme is organised by the union ministry of textiles in association with field publicity office Warangal.
Addressing the gathering, he said for welfare of weavers the government has allocated Rs 1,283 crore for handlooms and textiles sector in the current budget. It is also planned to launch buyback scheme wherein handloom products would be purchased by the government to ensure a steady income to the weavers.
The Speaker asked the weavers to come up with new designs in tune with the changing trends while the District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil explained the schemes being implemented for the benefit of weavers.
Ministry of Textiles Assistant Director Himaja Kumar informed that the camps are being organised from October 7 to 17 across the country. The initiative is dedicated to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay birth centenary.
The weavers and artisans are being issued credit facilities through MUDRA scheme, distributed modern tool kits and equipments, issued yarn pass books and conducted buyer-seller meets and expos during the camps.
