Taking a cue from the tech savvy KTR, who is second to none in the State in using the micro-blogging sites reacting promptly to the grievances of the people, Rajanna-Sircilla, the smallest district of Telangana State, administration is also ahead of all others in reaching out the people through the collector’s official Twitter handle - @Collector_RSL
Sircilla: Taking a cue from the tech savvy KTR, who is second to none in the State in using the micro-blogging sites reacting promptly to the grievances of the people, Rajanna-Sircilla, the smallest district of Telangana State, administration is also ahead of all others in reaching out the people through the collector’s official Twitter handle - @Collector_RSL
Albeit the numbers are not so flattering, the Twitter handle of the Sircilla Collector, as of now, has more followers than any other district collectors in the State. KTR, who represents Sircilla, has 2.13 lakh followers way ahead of all his Cabinet colleagues. Like the saying - As is the king so are the subjects, the district collector Krishna Bhaskar is the one who promptly reacts to people’s issues and also promotes the State’s policies.
It may be noted here that since the formation of new districts, the IT Department at the instance of KTR imparted training to the public relations officers of all the departments on effective usage of social media. This apart, the IT Department activated Facebook Pages and the Twitter handles of each collector and gave link to district websites in January this year.
Even KTR tweeted – “You can now follow District Collectors of Telangana on Twitter to get regular updates about various initiatives & also to send feedback,” in a bid to promote the initiative. Despite this, many district collectors are not active in taking up the micro-blogging sites.
Among all Sircilla has 1,506 followers and the administration had so far 1,001 tweets, updating and promoting the State’s policies. What surprises is that Sircilla has more followers than Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, where majority of population familiar with the technology live in the State.
In fact, only four districts – Rajanna-Sircilla (1,506), Warangal Urban (1,397), Mahabubnagar (1,027) and Suryapet (1,026) have touched four-digit mark in the number of followers. On the other hand, Nagar Kurnool and Nalgonda districts have the dubious record of having 130 and 219 followers respectively.
Speaking to The Hans India, Sircilla collector Krishna Bhaskar said: “We are trying our level best to respond to the grievances of the people. The Twitter handle has come like shot in the arm for those not able to reach the administration physically.” This is a district from where you have umpteen numbers of people migrated to Gulf countries and eastern part of the country, he noted.
It may be noted here that Krishna Bhaskar has so far reacted to many a complaint. Notable among them was the timely demolition of a dilapidated structure on the premises of zilla parishad school at Dharmaram village which was on the verge of collapse and posing threat to the lives of schoolchildren and staff.
