Hanamkonda: The leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have challenged the district TRS leadership to come for an open debate on the State government’s contribution towards Warangal city development.

Speaking to presspersons in Hanamkonda on Friday, the party state official spokesperson A Rakesh Reddy said the Centre has allocated Rs 10, 000 crore for Warangal district development and of that Rs 5,000 crore was being spending on Warangal city development alone.

Several developmental programmes like Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart Cities Mission, Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) and others were being executed in the city.

Under Smart Cities Mission alone the Centre had released Rs 2,876 crore while Rs 553 crore released for AMRUT. But, the ruling TRS government, which promised an annual budgetary allocation of Rs 300 crore, has failed to release the amount, he alleged.

On the other hand, the government failed to ensure quality of works under the Central government sponsored programme. The contractors formed into a ring at the behest of ruling party MLAs. As a result, huge amount of central funds was misused and quality works being carried out remained poor.

The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, who made tall claims on city development during 2014 elections, has not delivered a single promise during the last three years. The local TRS leaders have also failed to put pressure on the government to release the funds and ensure development here, the BJP leader noted.

Moreover, the TRS leaders were trying to claim credit for the works being executed with central funds, Rakesh Reddy complained and demanded the district TRS to release a White Paper on the city development. He appealed the voters in GWMC 44th division to vote for BJP candidate K Santhosh Reddy in order to ensure proper spending of central funds for the development of Warangal city. In order to check the misuse of central funds, there is a need for strong opposition in the municipal council, he added.
