bumperBhimavaram (West Godavari): Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasada Rao on Thursday claimed that the State had achieved highest yield in agriculture during this season. He laid foundation stone to roads and bridges worth Rs 51 crore in Bhimavaram and Undi constituencies of West Godavari district. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the bumper harvest could be possible because of several initiatives taken by the government for the development of the sector. The government had extended loans to the tune of Rs 55,000 crore during the kharif and Rabi seasons this year. The farming sector registered record growth because of government's care for farmers. Timely distribution of seeds and fertilisers, besides provision of marketing facilities had helped the State achieve this distinction. The government had taken a policy decision recently to bear the interest on the loans given to farmers, he said. The Minister said that 85 per cent of the State population would be benefitted because of the government's decision not to hike electricity charges for consumption up to 200 units. In spite of steady rise in the cost of power generation, the government had taken this bold step in the welfare of the poor, he said. Dharmana said that the government was maintaining transparency in the government appointments while giving priority to meritorious candidates. The employment drive taken up by the government was unprecedented. The government had also made provision for speedy services through e-Seva, he said. Narsapur MP Kanumuri Bapi Raju, Bhimavaram MLA Ramanjaneyulu and others were present.
