Rapes, sexual harassment, molestation are humdrum to the society hence we started to ignore, erase and forget. However, the excruciated news is swelling day-by-day. But neither solution is found nor justice is given. Similarly, there is a rise in blackmailing cases throughout the country.
Rapes, sexual harassment, molestation are humdrum to the society hence we started to ignore, erase and forget. However, the excruciated news is swelling day-by-day. But neither solution is found nor justice is given. Similarly, there is a rise in blackmailing cases throughout the country.
Extorting women with obscene videos, uploading it on pornography websites and looting evolved into a new business. This has become even more rampant with easy availability of spy cameras to which women are falling prey to.
G Varalakshmi, Director of an NGO, ‘Heaven Home Society’ and founder of Anti Red Eye campaign called out for better safety for women. A mother of two showed the way to millions by starting a campaign against the spy camera suppliers and launching a national wide campaign titled ‘Anti Red Eye’.
She says, “An obscene video is uploaded into pornography websites per second, especially home ones. The victims are falling into such traps without their knowledge. The government must listen to the voice. A landlord blackmails tenant, husband extorts wife, friend tortures woman and many cases closed without justice being provided.”
Shopping Malls, trial rooms, hospitals and even bedrooms are kept for voyeurism surveillance using spy cameras. These incidents gave birth to sexual addicts and witless husbands. The supply of spy cameras is too easy to purchase. Member of CBFC, Varalakshmi took an initiative to stand against the blackmailers by filing a case in the court. She demanded women’s security and an end to the business in selling spy cameras.
“It is unfortunate that we have an Arms Act in our country which makes it compulsory for a gun user to apply for a license but a spy camera which is an equivalent to a weapon is free to be handled by any person even without an identity check,” expresses Varalakshmi.
She said that the spy cams are available for Rs 250 and one can easily order them online. “Websites like www.bathroomspycameras.com are promoting such actions by openly selling cams in bathroom items.”
In order to bring worse into the light, the campaign is launched in the last week of December 2017. Pledging support to the victims of illegal spy cameras in public places, the organisation garnered support from Tollywood actors Samantha Akkineni, Mehreen, Sana, Vijay Devarakonda and many others.
The campaign is pleading for the support so that the government can consider the case. In a motive to accomplish this, the campaign came up with an idea of receiving a missed call. The support for the campaign can be raised and developed by giving a missed call to 8099259925.
Women who hesitate to lodge a complaint in the police station can contact the members directly. The campaign proclaims it’s totally trustworthy in hiding the details of victims. In association with SHE Teams and Bharosa centre, the campaign provides legal advisors; defense guidelines; psychological counseling and police action.
Shipra, member of R&D in Mallemala Entertainments said, “Cameras in public places are meant for security. But, what’s the use if those turn to be a threat? You are completely focused on the work when you go out. It’s not possible to count on the cameras in the room or expect a spy cam in a private space. Excess of anything is dangerous so, a count and license are important for carrying cameras too.”
Cases of women exploitation have become a daily dose in our busy schedule. The level of trust is reducing and it’s becoming risky for women to believe someone. Such conditions disturb them mentally, and hurt emotionally. Anti Red Eye campaign is a good step in the right direction. Let’s voice out and support the campaign by giving a missed call.
