Chennai Super Kings (CSK) superstar Suresh Raina reportedly was arrested on Tuesday in Mumbai after breaching COVID-19 norms.

Mumbai Police raided a nightclub near the airport, where they arrested 34 people, including Raina and a few other celebrities, as reported by India Today. The accused were booked for violating COVIS-19 norms after the arrests took place around 3 am. They were later released on bail. Out of the 34 people, 19 were believed to be from Delhi and Punjab.

The news report further stated that Mumbai Police has said the accused were booked under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and provisions of NMDA, the report further stated.

The pub was raided after it was open beyond the permitted time limit and breaching the set COVID-19 rules. Earlier this week, the Maharashtra govt had announced a night curfew in municipal corporation areas as a safety measure.

The 34-year-old Raina announced his international retirement along with MS Dhoni on Aug. 15. Raina, who has not played professional cricket for a year now, recently skipped Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to personal reasons. He was recently seen practicing in the nets with his Uttar Pradesh (UP) teammates at Kamla Club ahead of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that is supposed to begin next month.

The former Indian batsman is also working to promote cricket for youths in Jammu and Kashmir for which he travelled to the union territory recently and met with the administration.

The Indian cricket board recently said that the domestic season in the country will mostly begin in January with the Syed Ali Trophy. The final will be played on Jan. 31 and the board will take a call on the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy after the group stage of the T20 tournament.
