Having successfully completed a week in which the Coronavirus cases in the city did not go beyond 1,000, Chennai maintained its record well into the second week by registering 989 cases on Thursday. This is a reduction of four cases than that of cases unearthed on Wednesday. Similarly, the state-wide cases too registered a dip from the high of 5,871 as of Wednesday to 5,835 on Thursday. 25 people from outside the State tested positive as part of the day's cases in Tamil Nadu.

There was not much change in the number of cases in the neighbourhood with Chengalpattu clocking 453 cases and Tiruvallur 390 cases. Yet, like Chennai, Tiruvallur registered lower cases from Wednesday which stood at 407 cases. A marginal rise was registered in the case of Chengalpattu when the cases a day ago were only 439. 5,146 people returned home after getting cured while 119 died.

The aggregated figure for the total number of cases registered was 3,20,355 as on August 13. The cured cases totaled 2,61,459. A whopping 34,99,300 cases were tested till date and on Thursday 67,275 cases were tested.

A total of 134 testing centres in both the government and private sectors have been actively pursuing their tasks. Over 40 policemen cured from Covid-19 pandemic donated their plasma at the Rajiv Gandhi government hospital in Chennai. The city police chief informed that more cops are ready to donate if the situation demands.
