The young people were sent to an observation home while the college students were taken into custody.

Ramesh Mandal, a 29-year-old construction worker from Jharkhand who lived and worked in Velachery, was identified as the deceased. Wednesday night, Mandal went grocery and vegetable shopping with three other people.
A senior police officer stated that they came into a group dancing on the road at eight o'clock. One of the youngsters unintentionally kicked Mondal as Mandal at the time when his friends passed by them. The guys were accosted by Mandal, who beat one of them with a drumstick as the debate heated up. The young man became enraged and attacked Mandal with rocks and wood.
According to the authorities, they also chased away the other three individuals. The officer claimed that they also uttered racial epithets. When the other workers came back, they hurried Mondal to the hospital. He later had serious head injuries and was transported to the Government Royapettah Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Velachery police opened an investigation and apprehended all nine students. After Ramesh Mandal passed away in the hospital in the early hours, the police changed the case to one of murder.
