Looks like Facebook is in no hurry in joining the dark mode trend for its popular WhatsApp app. Though we are listening about the rumours from a long time that the Dark mode is coming soon on WhatsApp. The users including beta testers are still waiting to get it on WhatsApp.
As Dark mode diminishes the strain on eyes, it sounds more practical on WhatsApp than any other social media app, as the users spend relatively more time on this app when compared to other apps.
Though, if you are impatient about the dark mode and want to get it right away on your Android or iOS smartphone, this temporary fix can help you turn your WhatsApp dark.
Things to remember:
Do understand that this is a temporary fix and Facebook is yet to release Dark mode for WhatsApp. Also, as of now, this fix is limited to smartphones running Android 10 or devices that run on custom ROM that offers system-wide dark mode.
Follow these steps to get WhatsApp dark mode in Android smartphones running Android 10
1. Go to settings and turn on Developers Option
2. Settings -> About Phone -> Tap seven times on Build Number until you see a message saying "You are now a developer"
3. Now, go to Developer option and search the option 'Override force-dark' and turn on the toggle.
4. Restart WhatsApp and if everything has gone right, the dark theme will be applied to WhatsApp.
Ans in case, you have a smartphone that offers system-wide dark mode such as ColorOS, then go to Dark mode settings and turn on the system-wide dark mode option.
Follow these steps to get WhatsApp Dark mode in iOS
iOS does have any developer option that allows users to force dark mode on apps, but it offers Smart Invert feature that literally inverts the colour of the UI. That means, turning on Smart Invert will definitely make WhatsApp dark, but it will also change colours of the profile picture, images and videos on the device.
If you are still up for it, go to Settings -> Accessibility -> Display & Text Size --> Smart Invert and turn the toggle to On.
