Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters are never tired of trying new techniques to cheat gullible persons and they always try one way or another to siphon the money from innocent persons' bank accounts. The new kind of cybercrime which has gained a lot of momentum of late is the 'Lucky Wheel Spin' fraud.

It is a kind of game wherein the spinning wheel is circulated through Whatsapp groups or other social media platforms and if a user spins the wheel he receives a message stating that he has won a mobile or cash amount as prize and the message instructs the user to click on a particular link, according to Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar.

The CP said, "Once the user clicks on the link, mobile data and passwords of the users are compromised. The fraudsters then immediately siphon off the money from the accounts of users even before the user could realise the crime which has been committed."

"The issue came to light when a couple of users filed complaints at cybercrime PS of Cyberabad recently and stated that they were lured to play the wheel spinning game and after clicking on the links their money was stolen from the bank accounts We have registered cases from those users and the fraudsters are being tracked.

However, it is also requested that people should not click on the links circulating in social media and every such link should be verified before using. Moreover, users should not believe the gifts and prizes offered online because clicking on any suspicious links could lead to compromising of data and it can further lead to losing money," stated the officer.
