Malkajgiri: As part of the 31 road safety week programs, traffic police and NSS department of Neredment Government Degree College organized awareness program on road safety at the college on Friday. Malkajgiri traffic CI K Murali Mohan and SI Somnath explained students on the importance of following traffic rules.

Addressing students, CI Murali Mohan stressed on the importance of following traffic rules for road safety, rather than treating road safety as mere slogan. He advised students to be aware of traffic rules right from college days and never resort to drunken driving. He exhorted parents to discuss road safety measures, such as wearing helmet while driving bikes and seat belts while driving cars, with their children.

Parents should also need to ensure that their children never resort to drunken driving, he said. Murali Mohan advised students not to do rash driving as every year 5.27 lakh people die worldwide due to road accidents. In India alone, 410 road accidents were reported every day and mostly youth between ages 18 and 25 die in road accidents, he said. CI explained various measures taken by traffic department to regularize traffic and prevent accidents.

College principal M Ramachandram, Dr S Ramesh, lecturers, students and others participated in the program.
