Harish Rao, the one who played an important role in the rise of the TRS party since its inception and loyal to the people of Siddipet. To the people of Siddipet, elections are just a formality to elect their favourite leader. He faced all the criticism to develop his constituency, be it medical college and diverting water to Siddipet from nearby irrigation projects. He spends five days a week in his constituency to spend time with the people.

He ventured into the politics at the age of 32 i.e, in 2004 becoming the minister for Youth Affairs in united Andhra Pradesh. Harish Rao is the only person who KCR trusted when the latter had to resign as MLA from Siddipet (already elected as Karimnagar) after joining hands with Congress party and was accorded labour portfolio.

Harish Rao contested against TDP candidate Cheruku Muthyam Reddy and won as Siddipet MLA for the first time and from then he retained the seat in every election with a rise in the number of votes each time. In the first Telangana government, he was given one of the important portfolios -- irrigation, marketing and legislative affairs. He is the finance minister in the second term of the TRS government.

On the occasion of his birthday day, people from his constituency and party workers extended greetings to Rao. Meanwhile, he appealed to the people that he was not going to meet them in the view of coronavirus pandemic. Minister KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao's brother-in-law also extended wishes to the finance minister on his birthday. "Many returns of the day to Hon'ble Finance Minister, the dynamic & workaholic Garu who celebrates his birthday today. May you live a healthy, happy, peaceful & long life in public service bava. Always a pleasure working with you either on political or Govt forums," KTR tweeted.
