Hyderabad: Telangana BJP has cancelled arrangements to accord a grand welcome to its newly appointed State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday.

Addressing media here on Friday, BJP MLC and party Greater Hyderabad president N Ramachander Rao said, the party has made arrangements to hold a meeting at Begumpet Airport, followed by a rally, from there to the BJP State headquarters at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Bhavan in Nampally.

The meeting and rally were planned as for the first time the Karimnagar MP who is appointed as the State President will be coming to Hyderabad.

However, the decision to cancel the meeting and rally has been taken keeping given the health advisory issued by the Union Health Ministry to avoid programmes gathering large crowds as a preventive measure to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Ramachander Rao said the party leaders and cadre wanted to give a rousing welcome to their young new president on his arrival to the city for the first time after appointed as the president of the Telangana BJP.

But, the issue has been discussed and it was decided in the party to cancel the programme to strictly follow the health advisory. Accordingly, few of the party leaders will welcome Sanjay Kumar at Shamshabad Airport and he will directly reach party headquarters in Nampally.

The new president will meet party leaders and cadre at the party office. Ramachander Rao said that the Karimnagar MP has asked those coming to wish him not to bring any bouquets and shawls.

Instead contribute the cost of bouquets and shawls to victims of Bhainsa communal violence, who are yet to get any financial assistance from the State government.
