An engineering student attempted suicide in college premises after he was detained for low attendance here at Kukatpally on Wednesday.
An engineering student attempted suicide in college premises after he was detained for low attendance here at Kukatpally on Wednesday.
P Sandeep, a fourth-year student was pursuing Mettarlurgical engineering at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH). The varsity authorities will allow the students to write the exam for those who have 75 per cent of attendance and detained the remaining. However, Sandeep who got 55 per cent attendance was detained.
Ever since then, Sandeep was depressed over it and protested at the college along with other students demanding to allow them to write the exam. After the authorities turned down their demand, Sandeep poured petrol on him and tried to set himself on fire. However, his attempt was foiled by the other students.
Sandeep was shifted to the campus health centre and then to the police station. Principal Sai Baba Reddy said that the list of the detained students will be uploaded on the official website and it cannot be changed.
