Warangal: Pandem reserve forest in Mahabubabad was abuzz with nature lovers on Wednesday on World Environment Day. The programme was jointly organised by the Warangal Rural district forest department and Jana Vignana Vedika.

Around 300 nature lovers from across neighbouring districts trekked through the forest trail at Pandem.

Leading the pack was District Forest Officer K Purushotham, who expounded about the flora and fauna, especially the presence of wide range of birds in the forest.

Narsampet Munsif court judge Sanketh Mitra emphasised the need for protecting biodiversity. Narsampet ACP Sunitha Mohan expressed concern over the fast depleting forest cover. She said that onus is on everyone to protect the environment.

The theme of this year's Environment Day is 'Beat Air Pollution, DFO Purushotham said. In Hanamkonda a green walk was organised in which citizens and nature lovers in large numbers participated.

Commissioner of Police V Ravinder and Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao took part in the walk.
