The campaign for the second phase of local body elections has come to an end on Wednesday.

Khammam: The campaign for the second phase of local body elections has come to an end on Wednesday. On the last day, several key leaders of major political parties took part in the campaign.

During the second phase, the polling will be held for 82 MPTC seats and six ZPTC seats in Enkuru, Kalluru, Penuballi, Sathupalli, Thallada and Vemsuru mandals on May 10. A total 280 candidates are in the fray for 82 MPTC positions and 34 candidates are going to fight it out for six ZPTC positions. All the candidates have campaigned widely in the last few days to gain the voters support.

Meanwhile, three MPTC positions have been declared unanimously elected.

With regard to second phase elections, the officials have already transported ballot papers to the respective mandal police stations. Polling staff has already been trained. Officials have made arrangements for drinking water, electricity and other facilities at the polling stations.

Of the six mandals going for polls, except Enkuru mandal, the remaining five mandals fall under Sathupalli Assembly constituency. Former Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, legislator Jalagam Prasad Rao, sitting MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, DCCB former chairman Muvva Vijaybabu and Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah participated in the campaign for TRS candidates. Similarly, former Minister Sambani Chandrashekar participated in the campaign for the candidates backed by the opposition parties, the Congress and the Telugu Desam.

Nearly 477 polling stations have been set up where 2,30,072 voters will exercise their franchise.
