Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has directed the officials of all departments concerned to make elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of famous Medaram Jatra beginning from February 5.

Addressing the officials of various departments through teleconference held at BRK Bhavan on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary said that all available resources should be utilised effective so as to ensure that the pilgrims do not face any inconvenience. He asked them to ensure supply of uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, toilets, buses, sanitation, traffic and parking lots.

He said Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao has given clear instructions that the pilgrims visiting Medaram Jatara should not face any inconvenience. He said inter-sectoral teams of various departments should meet every day to review and implement a comprehensive plan. In case of any difficulties, the information should be passed on to the higher authorities and immediate measures should be taken to rectify the lapses if any. He said all departments and their teams should remain throughout the Medaram Jatra.

The Chief Secretary said special attention should be paid to traffic and safety so as to avoid traffic congestions. Additional arrangements must be made by appointing nodal officers at toll gates. He said all roads leading towards Jatra must be repaired and it should be ensured that the event concludes without any incident.

The teleconference was attended by DGP Mahender Reddy, Special Chief Secretaries Vikas Raj, Rajat Kumar and Sunil Sharma, IG Nagi Reddy, Tribal Welfare Commissioner Christina Z Chongthu and others.
