Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University prepares maps after analysing soil samples across the State

Hyderabad: The State Telangana has made another step forward in implementing an integrated planning and management of agriculture sector in the State.

As part of the mission, Chief Secretary S K Joshi released soil maps and reports prepared by Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) here on Friday.

PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor V Praveen Rao said the maps and reports were prepared after a four-year research and analysing the soil samples collected from across the State.

With these maps and reports, it was possible to figure out the kinds of soils in different districts and the soil status. Similarly, the reports will also act as guides in identifying the excess and deficiencies of nutrients in the soils.

Similarly, mandal-wise maps and the present status of soils are also prepped as part of the programme.

Praveen Rao said a team of scientists under the principle scientist, Dr P Ravindra Babu, from the soil sciences wing of the university had prepared the reports after analysing nearly 7,000 soil samples collected from different parts of the State, he said.

The PJTSAU reports would also help the State government in factoring in and distributing the quantum of fertiliser to the farmers based on these reports and soil requirements.

Appreciating the efforts of the university, the Chief Secretary urged the scientists to ensure that the maps and reports are made available to benefit to the farmers.

The Chief Secretary also released another report on the food consumption in Telangana State. Director of Agriculture Dr Jagadiswar and Dr Surendra Babu and Dr Seem scientist from PJTSAU were present.
