Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Friday said that so far Rs 9.45 crore cash was seized in the city limits. He said as per the Election Commission guidelines they have been conducting special drives for the last two months to curb the movement of hawala money.

On reliable information, the Banjara Hills police along with the FST teams laid a checking point on Thursday and seized Rs 1 crore cash from one Chandrakanth at Zaheeranagar in Banjara Hills Road no 10. On immediate interrogation, the officials also raided two places and recovered Rs 2.29 crore cash from the house of one Anil Kumar at Divyashakthi Complex. The total cash seized on Thursday was Rs 3.30 crore.

The Commissioner said that they are verifying the flow and the role of cash in election process. He said till now two cars, Rs 2.73 lakh freebies, Rs 9.15 lakh gold, 135 litres liquor, 40 kg ganja and 11 bags gutka was seized.

In the last two months, 881 NBWs executed, over 9, 243 e-petty cases booked by more than 500 officers, 43 MMC violation cases were registered. A total of 5,490 offenders bind-over occurred under 1,869 cases, and so far, 4,614 weapons were deposited.

Anjani Kumar conveyed thanks to the public for cooperating with the police on whose information they have seized 70 per cent of the total cash.
