Hyderabad: Basara temple in old Adilabad district has landed into another controversy with a diamond went missing from the crown of Goddess Saraswathi.

It is studded with seven precious stones in the crown. The Endowment officials confirmed the missing of the precious stone after the temple priests brought the issue to the notice of the local authorities.

It may be mentioned here that in August 2017 the processional deity went missing. Two priests had taken the Utsava Vigraham to a private school in Devarkonda in Nalgonda district for Aksharabhyasam (initiation into education).

The government had then suspended two priests. In another incident, the nose ring of the Goddess was also found missing.

Following reports of the missing precious stone now, Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy ordered a probe into the incident. The temple is equipped with high security installations.

Assistant Commissioner Sudha Rani will investigate and submit a report. The missing diamond was presented to the Goddess by a devotee from Hyderabad in 2006.
