With an aim to promote innovative techniques in drug discoveries among students and researchers, the University College of Pharmaceuticals at Palamuru University (PU) has launched a two-day national seminar on Friday.

Mahbubnagar: With an aim to promote innovative techniques in drug discoveries among students and researchers, the University College of Pharmaceuticals at Palamuru University (PU) has launched a two-day national seminar on Friday.

Organised in collaboration with Telangana State Council for Technical Education and University College of Pharmaceuticals, PU, the two-day seminar is expected to throw insights into various aspects of drug discovering techniques and innovative technologies needed.

Taking part as chief guest on the inaugural day, Palamuru University Vice-Chancellor Raja Rathnam expressed his happiness and welcomed the dignitaries participating in the seminar. He stressed more such conferences should be conducted. He asserted that industry and academia collaborations were very important as it would encourage the budding researchers to work towards discovering new drugs and innovative techniques which will further lead to invention of new and inquisitive technologies.

"I congratulate the organisers of the seminar and welcome the speakers and researchers from different pharmaceutical industries and academic institutions. I am hopeful that the two-day programme will delve on meaningful discussions and come out with useful suggestions and ideas that will pave way for the researchers and policy makers to take important decisions in discovering new drugs and innovative technologies for the same," said the Vice-Chancellor.

The VC also stressed that apart from discovering new drugs and medicines, it is also important to abide by regulatory norms and ethical aspects as part of discovery, research and development.

Dr V Venkateshwarlu, Managing Director of Neuhiet Technologies, who was special guest of honour, stressed on practical learning and skill development of the research scholars in the university. He said in the coming days, the new education policy which was soon going to be implemented would focus on practical learning rather than theoretical mugging of subjects.

"Students and researchers must not get disheartened by failures. In fact, they should use failures as steppingstones for their success and achieve greater heights. All great people who are successful across the globe have emerged from their failures and achieved greater heights," observed Dr Venkateshwarlu.

Another dignitary, Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy, Director of PASI, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, while delivering his key note address, stated that research students must make it a habit to go through as many reference books as possible as it would help them to come out with innovative and new ideas and help them to take forward the ideas of other researchers to invent new techniques and new drug discoveries. "In whatever field they work, students must give their 100 per cent to reach their goal and achieve targets overcoming all the problems," said Dr Kalyan.

He added that India and China were leading manufacturers of generic drugs in the world and they have achieved excellent success in this segment. However, to discover new drugs, it needs lot of time, energy and financial support, he observed.
