Mahbubnagar and Narayanpet districts combined stand at 11 and 12 places in the Inter first and second year pass percentages

Mahbubnagar: Going by the results of Intermediate exams that were announced on Thursday, the pass percentage of Intermediate second year students in the district has fell when compared to last year's pass percentage and this has triggered concern for the students, parents and educational institutions in the district.

While giving his perspective on reasons for the decreasing pass percentage in second year Intermediate results, Venkataiah, chairman and managing director of Rishi Junior College in Mahbubnagar district, said that the low pass percentage, particularly for the second year inter students, could be attributed to lack of proper teaching in classrooms and lower turnout of students to classes.

"Unlike Class 10 board exams which are conducted liberally in most places in the district, the Intermediate exams are totally different. Here the results mainly depend on the performance of students and how much effort they put in," opined Venkataiah.

However, the pass percentage of Intermediate first year in the district is quite encouraging as it has been on the rise for the last two years. Last year, i.e., in 2017-18 academic year, the Intermediate first year pass percentage was 54, while this year, it has increased by one per cent with 55 per cent.

Comparing the State-wide results, Mahbubnagar and Narayanpet districts combined stood at 11 and 12 places in inter first and second year pass percentages respectively.

Overall, about 11,643 students had appeared for the Intermediate first year examinations from both Mahbubnagar and Narayanpet districts and of them, 6,452 students passed the examinations.

If broken up gender-wise, out of 5,320 boys who had appeared for the Inter first year exams, only 2,432 students were able to clear. Among 6,323 girls appeared, about 4,020 students cleared the Intermediate first year exams.

Similarly, in Intermediate second year examinations, of the total 11,388 students who appeared for the final examinations, only about 6,915 students cleared the exams. Here also, the girls outdid boys. Of the total 6,038 girls who appeared for the second year exams, as many as 4,073 cleared the exams putting the pass percentage at 67.57 per cent, while the boys recorded 53.57 pass percentage.

Compared to government junior colleges, the pass percentage of students of private colleges is very high in the district. With regard to this, the district intermediate education authorities are in the process of reviewing and analysing the overall outcome of the intermediate results and very soon a detailed report is expected to be submitted to the government over the performance of the government junior colleges in the district.
