Hyderabad: Around 30 students from the Telangana Minority Residential School at Asifnagar were admitted to Niloufer hospital on Monday after they displayed symptoms of food poisoning. They are in the age group of 10-13 years.

Hospital Superintendent Dr Muralikrishna said children are undergoing treatment in a special ward and their condition is stable.

Elaborating, he said the students complained of severe abdominal pain and vomiting because of the food they consumed in the school hostel on Sunday.

Following which, school authorities have shifted them to the hospital for treatment around 8 am on Monday.

"They are being treated in a special ward with round the clock monitoring. We have decided to observe their health condition and symptoms for the next 24 hours as in food poisoning cases," the superintendent said.

Anxious parents and relatives of the children rushed to the hospital after knowing the news. Doctors suspected food poisoning either due to consuming unhygienic food or water.

Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and Home Minister Mahmood Ali visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the children. Later, the ministers said the children were doing better and would be under observation for the next 24 hours. Nampally MLA Jaffer Hussain also visited the hospital earlier.

Meanwhile, officials from the Telangana Minority Residential Schools Society (TMREIS) said that they are conducting an internal probe into the food poisoning.

They said the school has a strength of over 200 students and all of them ate the same food prepared in the hostel.

Only some students complained of stomach pain and vomiting, and they were shifted to the hospital as a precautionary measure. School authorities visited the students, the officials said.
