Hanamkonda: Demanding the Central government to roll back the three farm laws, the NSUI along with other students unions staged a relay hunger strike at Kakatiya University (KU) crossroads here on Monday. Warangal DCC President Naini Rajender Reddy criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his double standards over the farm bills.

"KCR, who recently made a trip to Delhi, needs to clarify his stand over the farm bills. The TRS government, which supported the Bharat Bandh, a nationwide shutdown call opposing the Centre's recently enacted farm laws, has suddenly changed its tack," Reddy said. He questioned why the TRS government was trying to prevent the student unions' protest against the farm laws.

It's totally uncalled-for, the DCC President said, referring to the arrest of senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao. It may be mentioned here that Rao, who was on his way to Warangal to take part in the student unions' protest against the farm laws, was arrested near Pembarthi in Jangaon district and sent to Lingala Ghanpur police station earlier in the morning.

NSUI State president Venkat Balmoor said that KCR cannot stop the agitations with illegal arrests. He appealed to people to condemn the arrest of Hanumantha Rao and other Congress leaders. The police arrested Congress leader and NSUI leaders when they blocked the highway near KU second gate in protest against the arrest of Hanumantha Rao. NSUI leaders P Sathish, M Abhinay Goud, Ajith Reddy, Premchand, senior Congress leaders Meesala Prakash and K Srinivas were among others present.

Speaking to media persons elsewhere in Pembarthi of Jangaon district, Hanumantha Rao criticised the KCR government for arresting him. KCR cannot stop the Opposition leaders by arresting them illegally, he added.

"It's not right to throttle the voice of the Opposition. It seems that KCR is more concerned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi than the farmers' interests," Rao said.
