Telangana has improved its standing in the overall health index rankings, Health Minister Eatala Rajender claimed, further stating that the State is on par with the healthcare provided by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Warangal: Telangana has improved its standing in the overall health index rankings, Health Minister Eatala Rajender claimed, further stating that the State is on par with the healthcare provided by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Minister chaired a meeting in Kakatiya Medical College here on Friday that focused on overcoming the shortcomings in dispensing healthcare facilities to people.

The maternal and child mortality rate has come down significantly with the efforts of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, he said, referring to the welfare schemes such as KCR Kits etc. He said that Telangana is the only State to provide 30 eggs a month to pregnant women and children through Anganwadi centres.

"In last five years, four medical colleges, one ESI hospital and an AIIMS have come up in the State. These apart, new private medical colleges have also been established in the State. The government is keen to upgrade healthcare services in Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad and MGM Hospital in Warangal on par with the corporate entities," Rajender said.

MGM Hospital is the only hope for the patients in north Telangana especially for the Warangal and Karimnagar undivided districts, hence, the government has plans to enhance the infrastructural facilities in the hospital, he said. He said that they have plans to turn 40 per cent of beds in teaching hospitals as ICU compatible.

The government is according permissions to procure emergency medicines, equipment etc through online mode so that there would not be any delay, the Minister said. He stressed the need for utilising the services of medicos in dispensing medicare to people.

Efforts are on to complete work on super-speciality hospital coming up on the medical college premises and to construct a six-storied modern block in the MGM hospital with an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore under Smart City Mission, the Minister said. The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Kakatiya Medical College/MGM Hospital would be shifted to some other location, he said.

Government Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar, ZP chairman M Sudheer Kumar, District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil, MLAs Nannapuneni Narender and Aroori Ramesh, KMC Principal Dr S Sandhya and MGM Hospital superintendent Dr B Srinivas Rao were among others present.
