Patancheru: District CITU committee member Nageswar Rao on Thursday demanded payment of Rs 8,500 as the minimum wage to grampanchayat workers, as enunciated in GO 21.

Addressing participants in a dharna organised by CITU at MPD office here after submitting a representation to MPDO Anant Reddy, he said the GO had been issued after the staff waged many agitations. The responsibility of enforcing was with the officials. Rao alleged that the officials had failed to implement the GO since its issue in November 2019. He expressing anguish over inadequate salaries being paid to the GP workers. He also demanded insurance cover to every worker besides enforcement of all legal facilities.

Among the participants in the dharna were panchayat workers Narsimhulu, Sudarshan, Sattayya, Narsimha and Ramulu.
