Hyderabad: Call for Save Osmania University movement
Osmania University: Former MLC Prof Nageshwar said that awareness among the students would determine the future of Osmania University. He was speaking at the 'Save OU' big debate held here on Thursday. He opined that regular efforts would help in protection of the universities from governments. "University should be made centre of academic excellence. Teaching and non-teaching posts should be filled. The government has been sanctioning only nominal funds and not appointing vice chancellor and executive committee," he added.
Prof Vinod Kumar demanded filling up of SC, ST backlog posts. Student unions demanded that the government sanction Rs 700 crore for the university. "The university which was spread over 2,300 acres has now shrunk to 1,600 acres," they said, urging government to protect OU land.
Prof Ansari, Prof Venkat Das, Dr Samunnatha, Dr Konda Nageshwar Rao, Dr Amanchi Nageshwar Rao, Dr CH Venkateshwarlu, student leaders Stalin, K Srinivas, teaching and non-teaching associations, student unions were present.
