Hyderabad: Following complaints from the residents of Madannapet areas in IS Sadan division, particularly from those staying near Eragunta Lake, the GHMC Entomology Wing launched a special drive by using disinfectant chemical spraying by drones. The operation was carried out near Dhobighat, following an initiative by IS Sadan division Corporator Sama Swapna Sunder Reddy.

According to officials, the drones covered areas Dhobighat, Madannapet, Saidabad and surrounding areas. "There were complaints from locals of increased mosquito menace, hence we decided to take up the measure in these areas," said an official.

The drones are being used at places where humans could not reach easily and spray the insecticide. Each drone has the capacity of carrying around 5 litres of disinfectant chemical and men with technical know-how operate these machines. "After receiving complaint about mosquitos, we forwarded the complaint to the Lakes Wing of the GHMC, which will send the drone, based on the availability and priority of the operation," said official.

This was the first time that the entomology officials conducted the operation with the help of drones in IS Sadan division areas, said the corporator.
