Hyderabad: Film Nagar Basti gets a facelift
The colony is being spruced up and its inhabitants being empowered to lead better lives
• The project has been divided into two phases. In the first phase, the group has painted around 100 buildings and the second phase in set to start by March first week
• In a collaborative initiative by Misaal India and Phoenix Foundation, the project was initiated by Suresh Chukkapalli from Phoenix and renowned artist and activist Rouble Nagi
Film Nagar: As many as 500 houses in the dingy lanes of Babu Jagjivan Rao Nagar in Film Nagar have come alive with murals and portraits depicting bringing the area to life.
In a collaborative initiative by Misaal India and Phoenix Foundation, the slum transformation project was initiated by Suresh Chukkapalli from Phoenix and renowned artist and activist Rouble Nagi.
Misaal Hyderabad is a social reform programme under Misaal India, a pan-Indian complete slum transformation project to dignify the lives of the underprivileged in slum localities.
Speaking about the initiative Rouble Nagi, renowned artist and activist shares, "The main aim of Misaal is not just to color the slums and leave, as the colors will fade in a few years. Our main aim is to bring a positive change in the lives of people living in those slums for keeping their area clean, educate their children, empower women and youth to make them feel a sense of belonging towards their vicinity and to make them understand the importance of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation and educating them through the medium of art."
Along with the beautification, Rouble along with the members,run cleanliness and sanitation awareness campaigns and conduct women and youth empowering workshops, health camp, art camp.
"Under the initiative Misaal Hyderabad we wish to launch into deeper, meaningful work in other bases across Hyderabad with local communities, using Art as the gateway and medium of building trust," adds Rouble.
Misaal India Group is well known for sprucing up slums of Mumbai, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Started in 2016, Misaal initiative was aimed at transforming slums by painting, educating and empowering the community and so far, has facelifted 64 communities, pan-India.
